Living On The Farm
Ours really is a family farm devoted to the good life, living on the farm . We are learning as we grow, about how to live more efficiently and effectively. Farm living takes the whole crew (and then some) to make it all happen. Check out the pictures of life on the farm as you go along.
We not only grow lots of plants and food to sell and to use, but also raise some cool livestock for friendship, food and work.
Living on the farm with us, we have standard Jersey Cows, Shetland sheep, Haflinger horses, assorted chickens and guineas, peacocks, cats, and Great Pyrenees dogs for looking after everything…and a trout pond and honeybees…. let's see I think that's it right now. It's amazing how much life they bring to they bring to the farm life.
We call it the Briar Patch because that's what it was when we bought it in 2003. We have literally carved our farm out of this old overgrown property. We believe in doing as much of the work as we can ourselves, and have built our own barns and homes and greenhouses. We lived on the farm for the first year in a Yome. Now, it's our living room and we have a Bunkhouse for sleeping. We love our outdoor shower…even in winter (well some of us do). We have a solar powered well pump, and solar hot water and in floor heating.
What a learning experience it all is. We are in the process of building a home biodiesel operation and a huge passive solar greenhouse. We still have time to do lots of playing…on the old playground, or in the pond or making farm style arts and crafts.
